Americans & the Holiday Hell

It’s December now. Christmas is coming up and I’m a few weeks into my new job. I like it fine, but the holiday shifts (9am-7pm) 5 or 6 days a week are really rough. They’re rough on my mental health as well as my physical. I spend all day on the phone, the majority of it is spent listening to customer’s yell at me, as if I’m the direct cause of their product being back ordered.

Customer service is hell during the holidays. As if the working class & those below the poverty line didn’t have enough to deal with during this time of year. Now we get to listen to people who blow more money than our rent or mortgage on a single gift tell us that we’ve ruined Christmas, ruined lives.

The holiday season reminds me not only how much I detest rich people, it also reminds me of how Capitalism failed. Watching my coworkers work themselves to death just to buy a few Christmas presents on top of paying the utilities or god forbid their student debt. The holiday season is nothing more than putting the rich being served by the poor on display for the world to see. It’s normalized to scream at a worker when you don’t get what you want. It’s almost as if everyone forgot the entire religion they claim to follow on Sundays.

Holidays in America are just another version of capitalist hell.

High Risk & Losing Respect for Friends and Family

The pandemic has done weird things to people and battered or broke relationships of all sorts. I know I for one have lost touch with family members and friends, and in a strange way, I am glad for it.

I don’t even know what month we’re technically on. It’s gotten to the point where the monotony of semi-isolation is blending my days together. I stay isolated because of the medications I am on, and I keep my daughter mostly isolated as she has asthma. I don’t really go to stores or anything like that, although I do visit a friend of mine, because staying in the house 24/7 surprisingly is a lot more drastic than 24/6 (rough estimate lol).

My point being is that I don’t go out to the bars, I don’t go shopping, I don’t travel to see my family (for multiple reasons now), and I don’t really do much outside of my home. Thankfully my job is remote, so that’s one less thing to worry about.

I didn’t really have a lot friends, nor a want to go out barhopping or anything like that pre-pandemic, so to be completely honest, short of losing date nights, my life hasn’t changed that drastically. The changes that I have endured though have been heart breaking.

I have lost friends, or acquaintances purely because they refuse to wear a mask, or social distance, or the worst? Make comments like “only the sick and weak die, it’s not a big deal”. You don’t have to wear a mask or social distance because our shit-show of a government says so, you should be doing it because it saves the lives of many people.. people like myself and my kid. I’ve slowly weeded people out of my life, because of above opinions, and some of those people included my family.

I’m also grappling with not seeing my immediate family this year. I know my parents traveled early on in the pandemic, (I haven’t inquired about recent travels) and buying into conspiracy theories. Supposedly they wear masks now, but socially distancing isn’t a thing for them. I was invited to spend Thanksgiving with them, but my siblings would be traveling (by plane too) to see them. Masks are not always enough, and that’s too much of a risk for me to take. Not to mention that I don’t condone traveling during this pandemic, even if it was to see my parents and sister, whom I miss. I’m high risk, I can’t do that, and most importantly I can’t risk giving the virus to anyone else as I’m also not perfect. Double-Unfortunate, I worked all around Thanksgiving, because: Black Friday & new job. So I guess it didn’t matter anyway.

I think finding out that people whom you care about, don’t care enough about you (and everyone else) to protect themselves and stay at home has been the most painful part of this pandemic. I’m still processing everyone I’ve pulled away from, and I don’t know when I’ll get over it to be honest.

I’ve been avoiding writing here because everything is just so bleak.

Covid-19 has killed 237k+ people in the United States, and Americans are still complaining about having to wear a mask and not being able to go out to dinner when cases are soaring.. again.

We made it through the election.. kind of. Biden barely won, barely, and Trump is contesting every negative vote count claiming that he won the election. Who knows what will happen when Biden is supposed to take office in January.

Protests against Police Brutality are still happening, but the media and vast amount of Americans do not care.. especially now that Biden has “won” the election. Despite the fact that Biden’s legislation is what set all of this into motion, people seem to think that just because he won an election, police brutality is solved.

There’s not much to update beyond that on a national, newsworthy level.

In my personal life? It’s been a rocky run lately. On the lighter side of that, I started a new job recently, and I’m very grateful for the income. My family is healthy and we have a roof over our heads. That’s good enough for now.

Take care everyone.

Everything is on Fire

This country disgusts me. So do the majority of it’s citizens. I don’t even know where to begin to be completely honest, there’s so much trash right now I just can’t process half of it. I’m disgusted and appalled at family as well as friends, and if I distance myself any more than I already have, I might as well just move to the woods and never see another soul beyond my immediate family ever again.

Covid-19 is still around, which isn’t surprising in the least considering that Americans refuse to wear masks, and sue our governors so they can go and eat at Applebees. We now have over 6 million cases, and more than 186k people have died. We’re projected to hit over 400k deaths in 4 months if Americans can’t manage to wear a mask and wash our hands, and yet people, people I know don’t believe in it or think it’s all scare tactics. Worse? They still parrot the “well, it kills the sick and elderly, so we shouldn’t have to lock down and wear masks.” 180k deaths, and people are still parroting that. It’s really something else to see people you know exclaiming that no one should mask up because people like you and your daughter will die.

Protests against police brutality and racism are still going strong. Places like Portland are well over 100 days into it, and it’s now local as well. Kenosha WI PD shot a man in the back numerous times bringing protests home. The man, Jacob Blake survived somehow. Protests started up immediately, which I whole heartedly support, but the Right & Far Right found a champion which makes me want to vomit.

Kyle Rittenhouse, a 17 year old from Antioch took a rifle that he was too young to have up to the Kenosha protests and murdered two people and severely injured another. He was arrested and charged, the next day, as he went to turn himself in and the police ignored him so he went home. It’s all on video, and yet Conservative Christians and Republicans have some how found a way to rally around him. They call him a patriot, and have raised a large amount of money to pay for his defense. His own lawyer says that he started the new revolution and parrots the patriot garbage.

The protests will continue, as they should as the police have been brutalizing people across the country for using their constitutional rights. Between police shooting people in the head, beating them on live streams and Trump voicing support for Kyle Rittenhouse and Alt-Right Militias, it all seems so hopeless.

All I can do is continue keeping in touch with my immediate community and voice my support for those on the front lines (as my chronic illnesses don’t allow for much else lately). The last few months however, have left such horror and disgust, I’m not sure that it will get better regardless of whether or not Trump stays in office. I do know however that a line has been drawn in the sand, we’ll be in the history books, and more than half of this country will not be on the right side.

Police Brutality – 2020 Neverending Edition

Police killed another Black man in Minneapolis, Minnesota. George Floyd.

They murdered him on video for all the world to watch. They murdered him with the expectation that they would get away with it.

I refuse to post the video as Black people should not have to watch death over and over again.

The people in Minneapolis have had enough and have broken into protest.

The police fired tear gas & LTL rounds at them, unlike what they did when White protestors stormed Michigan demanding to get haircuts.

Minneapolis is now burning.

Conservatives, Liberals and and White middle class people are complaining about looting; because it’s obvious that they care more about property than the lives lost to police brutality.

Days after the murder and the murderers still haven’t been charged.

I hope the protestors burn it all down.

Liberalism, Vote Shaming & Voting in America

This would have been the 5th presidential election I would’ve voted in. That’s right. I’m not sure I’m going to vote this November. Now, I know every single Liberal reading this just felt their heart rate speed up and eyes bulge out a bit. Fair warning: I don’t give a shit.

There was more than a few years where I became, I guess you could say compliant. I voted for the “lesser evil”. I shut up and went to the polls, every single time and voted against my community’s interests, against my own morals and beliefs again and again.  There was always someone worse I was told I had to vote against, there were always reasons, oh so many reasons why I shouldn’t vote 3rd party or abstain from voting in protest. I bought them.

So I voted. I voted for the woman who I loathed, who can’t manage to stop meddling in politics even though she’s not running. I voted for the woman who is married to a sex pest, who to this day can’t stop blaming the situation and woman he took advantage of instead of shouldering the blame himself. I voted for the woman who still speaks out against Senator Sanders even though he rallied for her harder than she ever has for anyone else.

I voted for the man who killed more people than I even want to think about with Drone strikes and kept our men and women at war. I voted for the man who let me keep my insurance despite chronic illness, but made sure universal wasn’t possible and that I could never afford a policy. I voted for the man who is still influencing politics even though he is out and done. I voted for the man who built the cages for children at our border and I voted for the man who lets Trump bare the blame for that.

Those are just the cliff notes for the last three elections, and the issues that impact my community? They’re still there, they’re still the same, if not worse:

It’s still a constant struggle just to find decent work. It doesn’t matter what any administration says the job numbers are. You could add 1 million jobs to the market, if those jobs only pay minimum wage and the minimum wage hasn’t budged in years, it doesn’t help anyone in the working class. Families will still have to work 2-3 jobs just to get by.

If we can’t afford our healthcare, we’re all just one prescription, one hospital stay or one diagnosis away from missing our rent payment. That’s all it takes. When you live paycheck to paycheck, your health is everything. Dental? Get out of here. Have you ever tried to get a root canal out of pocket? Just get the tooth pulled. Better yet? Take some percocet. Can’t see a doctor to get some? Get some from a friend. Need more? Buy some more. Develop a habit. See where I’m going?

Lets look at landlords. If you haven’t been paying attention, there was talk of a rent strike. 1/3 of all renters did not or could not pay rent on April 1st. Why was that? Well due to the pandemic, the vast majority of people are out of work. Of course the working class & working poor are affected disproportionately as we are far less likely to have money in savings. People with mortgage payments are far more likely to get assistance from their mortgage companies as most of them have plans in place to let you pause your payments. However, landlords are being.. well.. landlords and acting predatory and not ceasing rent. So all of these people who are renting, and are out of work suddenly have to pay rent but do not have the money to do so. Our country has no regulation in place for that. Predatory landlords just run free.

“Welfare”. I know a lot of you just raised your eyebrows. I can’t even have a beer at the bar without hearing someone complain about “Welfare Queens”. Our country cannot go 2 years without cuts to some sort of public assistance. Whether it be the WIC program, food stamps, housing assistance or even Medicare. If you haven’t noticed, people not having food, cash, or healthcare is detrimental to our public safety, economy, and health. The working class as a whole tends to work jobs that don’t offer health insurance or even a wage that allows you to pay both your bills and purchase food at the same time. So the safety net that is “Welfare” is necessary since wages haven’t gone up (see first point). Yet, cuts cuts cuts!!

There are many, many many more issues I could rant about. I could go on forever. I haven’t even touched on police brutality, or the prison systems yet… but I’m guessing you get the point. If you haven’t, you never will. These issues haven’t changed, at least not as long as I’ve been alive. They haven’t changed regardless of who is in office or who I vote for.

Beyond my community, take a look at our country and what we’ve done. Regardless of who is in office, we’re still bombing and drone striking innocents. It’s still blood for oil no matter who sits in the White House, Democrat or Republican. Hell, the Democrats are the ones who built the damn cages at our border (yes, it’s true, no it’s not fake news, no, I don’t care if you don’t believe it). People still have mass amounts of student debt, live on the streets, die of starvation, drug addiction or can’t afford their medication under both Democrats and Republicans…

… and people are shitting on Leftists because we’re tired of voting for them.

Let me go ahead and correct that. Liberals are shitting on Leftists because we’re tired of voting for them.

Not only that, but they’re trying to shame us into voting for Biden. I’ve spent the last few months being told that they don’t “need my vote” or to “fuck off” when I’ve brought up that he has a rape allegation against him, or his racist as fuck past, or his anti-LGBTQ+ past, or his questionable standing when it comes to women’s rights or or or or.. the list goes on.

When I ask people why they’re voting for him, barely anyone can actually give me a policy they like, it’s usually just some line about how he’ll put the next Supreme Court Justice up (which, Bidens damn near center.. why would I give a shit about that? He’s NOT going to elect anyone who sways the court either way.) or some mutterings about how he’s “not Trump”.

When I bring up anything I’ve written here, or the fact that I’m not comfortable voting for a man with a rape allegation against him, it instantly turns into “not voting or a 3rd party vote is a vote for Trump.” No. NO. Voting for Trump is voting for Trump. Voting for Trump is voting for everything above. Voting for Biden is voting for everything above. Abstaining from voting is simply that, and also your right. Voting for a 3rd party member, is literally your right as an American.

Read that last part again.

Do it again.

One more fucking time.

Liberals need to get off their high fucking horses and just stop. STOP. A lot of us voted for your candidates for years, only to be shit on each time when things didn’t go your way. Now, when it matters, and we tell you we’re done? You try to shame us into voting for your candidate. Fuck off. Put forth some policies that we actually agree with, oh and maybe a candidate that doesn’t have a rape allegation, just as a starter. Otherwise? It doesn’t matter.

Those of you crowing about how Trump will destroy America? Sure, maybe he will. However, Biden has a pretty good chance of doing that too. Just ask everyone who is poor, incarcerated, starving, dying of a treatable disease, hiding from ICE, fighting fascism in this country. It’s all the same shit, just a different face, and a different twitter handle. If you want to do something different, maybe YOU should look into voting 3rd party and throw away that pink pussy hat.

Pandemics, Primaries, Economic Collapse & Springtime

Things have changed so much in the last year and more importantly, things will never be the same. I thought about it for a while, and decided that it seemed right to archive my previous posts. While a lot of them were still relevant, they seemed so.. distant, and I just wanted a fresh start.

April 2020. Four months into the year and it feels like we’re four YEARS in. We’re currently under a “Stay at Home Order” and have been for a couple of weeks because of the Covid-19 pandemic. It’s a respiratory virus from the SARS family that has been spreading like mad.

Screenshot 2020-04-09 at 2.52.48 PM

Because the majority of our country and most of the world is quarantining, the economy is suffering. 6.6 million Americans filed for unemployment just last week since most stores, restaurants and the rest of the economy has closed down.

Predictably, our government under the Trump administration has fumbled the pandemic response. Hospitals are overwhelmed, trust in the government is low, and fear is skyrocketing. Trump himself is all over the place, his twitter is a minefield of dementia riddled attacks on everyone from the press to senators to governors to other countries. His comments and actions (golf trips) on the virus itself show how unprepared he is for a crisis of this magnitude.

Needless to say, he’s here to stay. Bernie Sanders has dropped out of the race for president. So our lovely two-party system has decided that our choices yet again are Democrat or Republican, Joe Biden or Donald Trump. Unfortunately Joe Biden has a very problematic history including but not limited to racism, homophobia, and rape. Ironically so does Donald Trump. So, I guess it’s just more of the same.

I haven’t quite processed all of my feelings on all of this yet, so that’ll be a post on another day. Beware though, you probably won’t like what you read.
